In the Spotlight

During his visit to the Oleniy Ruchey MPC site in the second half of January, Sergei Fedorov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NWPC, organized several meetings with heads of the Apatity branch office and the Company’s technical experts on current issues.

Particular attention was focused on the production of concrete, its quality and the speed with which it is poured, as well as distribution of work for 2011 between contracting organizations. Negotiations were held with contractors, whose activity was slowed over the New Year’s and Christmas holidays.

Fedorov stressed that road conditions are an important issue. The safety of workers and supplies of construction materials all depend on roads. The commissioning of the second concrete mixer was also in the spotlight. A representative from the supplier, Elcon (Samara), is performing the commissioning work and training personnel. The productivity of the BSU-2 concrete mixer is 30 m3 of concrete per hour. It is equipped by a steam generator that allows concrete production to continue during winter. Its commissioning would double concrete production. The Company also has another precast concrete unit located at Inter-regional Distribution Network Company of the Northwest’s base in the city of Apatity. Since July 2010, 17,000 m3 of concrete produced at the BSU-1 concrete mixer has been poured. This year the Company plans to pour 27,000 m3 of concrete, including metalwork and equipment installation at the MPC construction site. This will be the determining factor for the first half of 2011.
