Environmental Policy

NWPC’s environmental policy is aimed at minimising its environmental impact, conserving natural resources, and optimising energy efficiency.

The Company focuses its environmental measures on air and water protection and waste management.

In its production operations, NWPC takes measures to reduce emissions, including using dust suppression during drilling and watering down roads and mine dumps. It cooperates with the Mine Institute to prevent wind erosion by creating a unique «bio-geo» barrier aimed at fortifying avalanche dams and road grades.

In order to conserve water resources, the Company takes measures to protect the water protection areas of Komarinoye Lake and Vuonnemyok Creek and preserve their ecosystems and biodiversity. Every year, the Company releases Atlantic salmon parr into the Umba River (White Sea).

NWPC follows Russian sanitary and environmental laws governing waste management and contracts with licensed waste disposal companies.

Each year, the Company works with accredited laboratories to carry out analytical and environmental monitoring at all its production facilities, which includes examining environmental conditions and assessing the levels of air and water pollution. The Company regularly measures X-ray and gamma radiation at the open pit mine and dump sites.

NWPC’s environmental management system applies to all environmental issues associated with the development and processing of apatite-nepheline ores and manufacturing of mineral feedstock for chemical and fertiliser production facilities.

The environmental management system complies with GOST R ISO 14001-2016 standard (ISO 14001-2015), as confirmed by the compliance certificate issued by LLC Federal Register, the certifying body.
