On 14 February 2025, Roman Chekushov, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Development of the Arctic and the Economy of Murmansk Region, paid a working visit to the Oleniy Ruchey mine. They visited an open-pit mine, saw the process of the apatite ore extraction and inspected the crushing and flotation facilities of the processing plant. The extensive development of the Oleniy Ruchey deposit, with estimated reserves sufficient for more than 50 years of continuous operation, includes both open-pit and underground mines.
During the business meeting, Roman Chekushov discussed the company’s development plans with Yevgeny Sozinov, CEO of North-Western Phosphorous Company. ‘The Oleniy Ruchey is the youngest mine in Murmansk region’, said Mr. Sozinov. ‘Every year, NWPC increases ore extraction and apatite concentrate production. In 2024, we reached our target of 1.35 million tonnes of end product per year, and we expect to bring it up to 1.9 million tonnes by 2029’.
Mr Sozinov also emphasised that NWPC takes care of its employees and is involved in the life of the local communities, making a significant contribution to the social and economic development of the region. Over the years, the company has invested over RUB2 billion in the development of the cities where it operates, Apatity and Kirovsk.
For his part, Mr Chekushov noted the company’s important role both for the economy of the Russian North and Murmansk region, and in general, as a reliable and stable supporter of Russia’s strategic industry and the import substitution programme.
